Mrs. Stinson’s Classroom Handbook
Ecole Harbour Landing School
2017/2018
Welcome to our classroom! This handbook will guide you through some of the general ideas and policies for our school for this school year. We have a big, new beautiful school that has designed for you to be your very best self as a student so remember that the general rules are RESPECT and COMMON SENSE!
TechnologyOur school board has a general BYOD policy. This means that you are welcome and encouraged to bring your own device to school to use for educational purposes or to be used to listen to music. The decision to bring your device is between you and your parents but having access to your own device will guarantee that you have technology at all times!
We do ask that you save any access to Social Media for your time at home! This includes SnapChat, Instagram etc. Please try not to text during class. This includes to your parents unless you have my permission.
Using technology follows the rules of Common Sense and Respect. You know what is appropriate for school and what is not so please follow that!

Grading
HomeworkMy belief is that home is time for family and friends, out of school activities and time to relax. The only time that you should have homework is if you are not using your class time properly. You will be engaging in a lot of group activities and it is only fair that you work while you are here as we all know how getting together after school can be.

End of the Day
Building RespectYou have a wonderful building that you have the privilege to come to everyday. You will be allowed to use the space to your choosing when working as long as you ask if it is okay and stick to the general rule of not going past the stairs. Use your common sense when it comes to the furniture, running through the spaces, your voice volume and how you are conducting yourself.
You are not permitted to use the elevator unless you have a large project to bring up or you are broken.
We are going to have a great year!

Classroom Things
- You are welcome to bring water and a snack to class. Remember that we have carpet and that you need to be respectful and use common sense when eating and drinking in class. Don’t bring sunflower seeds, candy, pop, coffee, unhealthy snacks etc.
- Your school is your work space, please dress like you would if you were going to work! This looks like leaving your short shorts, muscles shirts, beer tees, hats etc. at home.
- You will be asked to remove your shoes when you enter the school all year long. Please have another pair or shoes or slippers that you would like to wear.
- Please use respect and common sense when borrowing items from others. This includes me! I do not typically lend my supplies to students but I do have pencils that you can use so please do not help yourself.
- When you are done your work, I have provided some activity drawers full of things like Dot-to-Dot, Sudoku, colouring books etc, for you to use. These belong to me, not the school, so please be respectful and use common sense when using them.
Grading
- This school year, grading will look a lot different than what you are used to. You will be grades on a 4, 3, 2, 1 scale on all assessments.
- 4: You have exceeded the outcome expectations of the assignment. You have clearly put in the most effort that you ever have in anything you have ever done before!
- 3: You have met the outcome expectations of the assignments and have given a great effort!
- 2: You are still working towards meeting the outcome expectations of the assignment and still have some more work to do to get there.
- 1: You are struggling to meet the outcome requirements of the assignment.
- 4: You have exceeded the outcome expectations of the assignment. You have clearly put in the most effort that you ever have in anything you have ever done before!
- On your report card, the summary of those number grades will look like Exceeding, Meeting, Progressing, Beginning or Incomplete
- Remember that it is ok to not be perfect. It is ok to make mistakes. It is ok to have to try again. It is ok to not be the best at something. If we were all wonderful at everything, we would not need to be here!

Beginning of the Day
- When you enter the room, you will see a daily schedule. Please get your materials ready for the first thing we will be doing and have a seat in the appropriate spot for that activity and wait for morning stuff like attendance
Middle of the Day
- You will eat lunch in you classroom until 12:30 and then you will go outside. Lunch should be quiet and relaxing and a break from the activity of the day. I will be your supervisor. We do not have microwaves so plan you lunch accordingly.
End of the Day
- I will dismiss you at the end of the day after we sign agendas. You do not need to have your parents sign your agenda but I need to. The room should be clean, blinds will have to be closed and you must put your chair up on your table.
